1916 Easter Proclamation Day
April 22, 2016
Scoil Chonglais held a very special re-enactment of the final events of the Easter Rising in 1916 to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the historic event. Fantastically organised by Art teacher, Ann Deeney-Walker and members of the local Drama society, the re-enactment was a very professional and realistic production. We would like to thank all the members involved for their time and effort in preparing and rehearsing for this event, as well as all the students and staff who took part in the production on this very special day for Scoil Chonglais. There was also music and singing to accompany the re-enactment, while students who had family members that fought in the Rising spoke about their relatives and the role they played in this historic event.
We would also like to thank members of the Irish Army and the Gardai took part in the Raising of the Flag ceremony which can be seen on the main page of the website. These officers were as follows:
Captain Shane Courtney
Corporal Darren Hall
Superintendent Martin Walker
Garda Brendan Duke
These officers were assisted by our Vice Principal Tom Fox and we appreciate the effort of all these men had gave up their time to help us celebrate this special event in Scoil Chonglais.
